Temple Cleansing (Matthew 21:12-17)

Our Lord arrives in Jerusalem with a remarkable reception.  The people praise him as the Lord he is, they throw down their cloaks, and it seems that Christ is able to take the city by storm.  However, Christ runs through the temple overturning tables, and driving people out of the temple.  Why does Christ react this way?  What does the temple tell us about the state of God’s people in this time?

Corporate Cleansing (Isaiah 6:1-13)

Isaiah the prophet is called into the most holies of places.  You would think that he would be overjoyed to encounter the full holies of our Lord, but he is overwhelmed by his placement in the true temple.  Why is Isaiah so upset and concerned?  This is a prophet set apart unto the Lord and so what does he have to worry about?  What is the Lord ultimately going to do to set aside this man’s fears, but at the same time equip this man to come into HIs holy presence?

The Problem of Hard Heartedness (Mark 6:45-56)

There is the temptation that we face, whether we admit it or not, to think at times that we have arrived at a superior place in our sanctification. Now, we might not put it this crassly, but the reality is thatwe do think higher of ourselves than we ought.  Why is that?  We pride ourselves on our systems, our strategies, and our ways overcoming sin.  We do this in the name of growth.  So, what does Christ teach us about Spiritual growth and conforming to Him?
